Excursion report on social media

Department of Zoology had organised F. Y. B. Sc and S. Y. B. Sc. excursion to Tamhini wildlife Sanctuary on 18th February 2025. Total 27 students with 3 staff members visited to Tamhini. Focus of excursion to understand the biodiversity of Tamhini ghat which is full of diverse in flora and fauna. Field study has been emphasized on best way to enrich students knowledge about habitats of western ghat, species of birds, butterflies and to take small break from theoretical learning. We enjoyed Tamhini’s refreshing air, very soothing and calm environment.

While travelling we encountered many species of birds from our bus window like Greater Coucal, Swift, black Kite, Egret sps, Purple Rumped Sunbird, Common Kingfisher, White Breasted Kingfisher, Drongo, Cormorents, Whiskered Bulbul and also monkeys. When we entered the Tamhini We spotted small raptor and bird of prey called  Shikra, then we spotted Yellow Crowned woodpecker, students observed drilling and drumming on trees with his strong bill. Student had their lunch by sitting under the tree and near the river enjoyed the beauty of nature. Student observed Asian Green Bee Eater, Sunbird Species, Yellow Browed Bulbul, Golden Oriole, Red Vented Bulbul, Purple Sunbird, White eared Bulbul, Long tailed Shrike, Oriental Turtle Dove,  Spotted Dove, Asian Koel etc. We also visited to Mulshi Dam where Student enjoyed in the water and the scenic environment of water and clean blue sky. Many species of butterflies we observed like brown pensy, Tiger butterfly, Common Mormon, Blue mormon, Common Crow, plain Tiger butterfly, Lime butterfly, Large white, Yellow grass butterflies. Students enjoyed and learned about animals and their habitats, and to develop a connection with nature.
