CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM in force from 2016 -17at University of Mumbai 33
University of Mumbai has introduced a new examination cum evaluation system at First Year Arts, Commerce & Science level from 2016-17. Award of degree will be based on learners progress at six semesters taken together in three years. The pattern is called Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). in force from 2016-17 at University of Mumbai. It is introduced to stay in tune with International Academic Standard. The system aims at simultaneously teaching and evaluation of learners\\\\\\\' progress throughout the course.

This scheme is available on the Universitys web site www.mu.ac.in and the same has been brought into the force from the academic year 2016-17 onwards.

The new pattern will consist of internal assessment of 25 marks, Semester end theory exam of 75 marks.

The scheme of evaluation: as per university rules in force from time to time.

I. Internal assessment : (25 %)
a) One periodical class test / Projects / Assignments
b) Active participation in the class instruction deliveries

II. Semester end Examination :
Standard of passing : - The learners (students) shall have to obtain a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate to qualify for each course. Learners shall obtain at least 10 out of 25 marks in internal assessment and at least 30 out of 75 in semester end examination separately.

1. First and Second Semester Examinations : There shall be an examinations, at the end of each semester and they shall be called First semester Examination and Second Semester Examination respectively. Both semester Examinations shall be of equal marks and of equal duration. The First semester Examination shall be based on the portion of the syllabus of First Semester and the Second semester Examinations shall be based on the portion of the syllabus of the Second semester, as prescribed by the Boards of Studies and approved by the Academic Council.

The Practical Examination in a subject shall be held at the end of each Semester.

2. Practical Examination : Students are required to complete the Tutorial/Project/Practical Work wherever applicable. It is a part of final examination, failing which the student will be declared failed in spite of passing the theory examination.

3. Use of Unfair means in examination : As per Ordinance 5050, if student is found using unfair means in the examinations of the College or University, the complete results will be annulled/Cancelled and the student might lose an academic year.

4. Prescribed fees at all semester end examinations conducted by college and university.

5. Photocopy & Revaluation of Answer Books : There is a facility of verification & revaluation of answer books along with a Xerox copy of the answer book with payment of prescribed fees at all semester end examinations conducted by college and university.

6. Exemption : An unsuccessful candidate who obtains the minimum percentage of marks prescribed for passing in a subject or practical may opt to be exempted from appearing in that subject/ practical\\\\\\\'s at his / her subsequent appearance such students be declared to have passed the whole examination on his / her passing the subjects/ practical\\\\\\\'s in which he/ she has failed.

7. ATKT: Candidate who have been declared failed at the examination or who have been allowed to keep terms (ATKT) for the higher class shall appear for the semester examination held by their respective colleges / University of Mumbai. This will be as per rules & regulations of University of Mumbai.
