Counselling Cell

Counseling Cell conducted a workshop on 'Anger Management' on 31st July, 2011 from 11 am to 1 pm in the seminar hall. The workshop was attended by 54 students and some lecturers as well. This workshop included interactive exercises and discussion on various psychological techniques to control aggression.

A seminar on 'Effective Study Habits' was conducted on 20th August, 2011 in the seminar hall. The seminar was attended by more than 50 students from Arts, Commerce, Science and BMM background. It was noticed that a lot of students had been approaching the counseling cell with issues such as exam fear and difficulties in studying. Hence it was decided to hold a separate workshop on study habits for students to deal effectively with the pressure. various study habits were discussed along with the skills to manage exam anxiety.

The movie 'Provoked' was screened on 13th October, 2011. 48 students from F.Y.B.A and S.Y.B.A. were present for the movie. The rationale behind screening this movie was to spread awareness regarding sexual abuse and harassment, domestic violence and social stigma attached to married Indian women.

A workshop on 'Documentary Making' was conducted on 15th October, 2011. The workshop was conducted by the students from BMM department of N. G. Acharya and D. K. Marathe College and was attended by 50 students of FYBA and SYBA classes. During the workshop several technical aspects involved in documentary making were discussed. The difference between a documentary and a short film was also explained to the participants. The idea behind this workshop was to provide career option to Arts students as well as to integrate students from aided section and unaided sections.

A lecture cum workshop on 'Role Play' technique was organized on 17th October, 2011 for the students of Certificate Course in Basic Counseling Skills. It was attended by 26 students. The technique of role play was introduced to the students along with demonstration of the technique. This technique is mainly used to deal with emotional and behavioral issues and it was taught to the students who are learning the skills required to perform therapy.

Every year Counseling Cell holds a 'Career Guidance Fair and Entrepreneurship Development Program'. This year also it was held on 21st December, 2011 and around 40 stall were put up by the students to try their entrepreneur at skis. Students made profit.

An introductory lecture on 'Gestalt Therapy' was organized for Counseling Course students on 19th October, 2011. This lecture was attended by 26 students of counseling course. Gestalt therapy is one of the very effective and most widely used psychotherapy which has been proven effective in the area of counseling.

Along with the above mentioned activities Counseling Cell is also running a 'Certificate Course in Basic Counseling Skills' which started from the month of August 2011. 26 students enrolled their names for this course. The first batch of this course had 11 students in the year 2010-11 The lectures have been conducted regularly on Saturdays from 11 am to 1 pm.

Upto January 2012 Councelling Cell has provided individual counseling and guidance to 49 students of the college. The issues that most of the students came up with and most frequently discussed during the sessions were related to studies and academics such as lack of concentration, not able to remember what was studied or taught during lecture, handling academic pressure, exam anxiety, career guidance etc. Students also came up with issues related to interpersonal relationships and emotional disturbances. Counseling cell provided these students with required guidance and counseling and whenever required therapies were also administered to help those students.

In the month of March and April Personality Development programs were conducted for Arts students. During this program the main emphasis was on improving the communication skills verbal as well as non verbal, self presentation skills, Emotional intelligence, stress management, self presentation skills, mannerism and improving students' confidence.
